Visible Human Project

Visible Human Project images

As of March 29, 2004 the CIAR program of the Medical Science Campus of the University of Puerto Rico acquired a license of the Visible Human Data Set provided by the National Library of Medicine. This data is a complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the normal male and female human bodies. The database consists of CT, MR and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers. The male was sectioned at one millimeter intervals, the female at one-third of a millimeter intervals.

In CIAR we worked on an open source, cross-platform alternative to accelerate pre-processing of these images. This will facilitate use of the dataset by faculty and graduate students. More information about the Visible Human Project is available at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/visible_human.html
